MATV SYSTEMS

Master Antenna Television M.A.T.V systems providing terrestrial television and radio reception for multi occupied dwellings serving single blocks to complete estates. With the Governments imminent switch-off of analogue television services, expected between 2007-2012, many of these systems that have been in existence for some time will require some degree of redesign and modification in order to successfully provide reception of digital signals. Local authority’s housing associations landlords and anyone responsible for managing television services should be planning for such works. Upgrade work will vary comprising of installing channel cluster equalisers and head end amplifiers for small systems, to installing channel converters and processors for more complex sites, all of which will be determined from the obtainable off-air signal levels and signal loss within the existing distribution system.

SMATV SYSTEMS

Satellite Master Antenna Television S.M.A.T.V systems for the distribution of terrestrial and satellite signals to communal buildings eliminating the installation of unauthorised aerials and satellite dishes. Satellite signals are delivered either at intermediate frequencies IF to enable the user to connect a satellite receiver to the system or at UHF where signals are processed at the head end using professional satellite receivers modulated to UHF frequencies to allow direct tuning of channels to televisions. The latter type of system is popular for Hotels or any application where it is not practical to install individual satellite receivers to each outlet point.

 

IRS SYSTEMS

Integrated Reception Systems I.R.S the latest development for communal television systems initiated by BSKYB and adopted by the Digital Television Group. These systems are set out to provide a multitude of services comprising of analogue and digital terrestrial television and radio reception together with reception of both high and low band frequencies from the Astra satellites at 28.2° East with the option for additional facilities such as closed circuit. These modern systems benefit from using a five cable backbone system configured with star wired distribution networks delivering all services to one outlet plate.
